The weird and wonderful world of wedding traditional.

A stitch in time...
To kick us off: superstition states that the bride should not wear her entire wedding outfit before the big day, as it's considered unlucky. Some brides leave a final stitch on their dress undone until it's time to leave for the wedding ceremony.

The name game
It was thought unlucky for a woman to marry a man whose surname began with the same letter as hers. The traditional rhyme stated: "To change the name and not the letter is to change for the worst and not the better". And a bride shouldn't practice writing her new name before the wedding as this is seen as tempting fate.

Intimate, personal - but not private
A wedding might be an intimate and personal occasion, but unfortunately, it can't be a private one. Legally, your venue must be open to the public to allow anyone who thinks they may have 'just cause and impediment' to come along and say their piece. This means the church or register office doors cannot be closed during the ceremony and the location of the ceremony should be clearly signposted.
